In this workshop for property managers and co-op & condo board members, learn from technical experts about how to improve your building’s performance through Strategic Decarbonization Planning (SDP) to meet compliance deadlines, reduce costs, improve efficiency, while increasing property value.

Speakers will answer your questions, offer information on financial incentives, and walk through actionable tools and resources you can utilize to incorporate decarbonization into a building’s capital planning.

The event will be led by Building Energy Exchange, the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY), and the Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice, with support from NYC Department of Buildings, NYSERDA, Con Edison, NYC Accelerator, NYCEEC, and Council of New York Cooperatives & Condominiums.

Decarbonization planning for existing buildings, end to end. We build phased roadmaps tied to capital cycles, map compliance obligations and penalty exposure under state and local emissions laws, structure financing for electrification retrofits, identify and stack available state and utility incentives, and asses electrical capacity and grid interconnection constraints before design begins.

Experts from across the energy sector will share practical strategies for advancing grid-responsive electrification, including demand response initiatives, utility incentives, clean heating programs, and emerging sensor technologies. Discover how these tools can reduce costs, improve building performance, and position buildings as partners in New York’s energy future.

The evening will feature a series of brief presentations followed by networking and light refreshments!

 Join Building Energy Exchange and the US Green Building Council (USGBC) for a moderated discussion with regulatory and industry experts exploring how building decarbonization can help address, rather than exacerbate, the current and future challenges facing our grid.

This session will explore the emerging grid issues and the various strategies, such as load shifting, peak load reduction, improved building envelopes, and geothermal, that buildings can deploy to reduce grid demand.  Coffee and pastries will be served

From demolition materials to wastewater and food waste, our panelists will share how they’re uncovering value in overlooked resources and reshaping how we think about waste across the built environment. Through presentations and a moderated discussion, we’ll examine how to shift the perception of waste from an unavoidable cost to a valuable asset, what it will take to move circular solutions beyond pilot projects, and the conditions needed to drive broader adoption.

Together, we’ll explore how different stakeholders can begin creating more circular systems that are both economically viable and environmentally impactful.

The evening will conclude with an audience Q&A, followed by a networking session with refreshments!
